2018/2019 IPA Winter Pistol League
The competitive season for 2016-1017 will soon be here, summer practice sessions are now being scheduled
New Milford Rifle and Pistol Club participates in the IPA Winter Pistol League each year shooting in our 8 station 50' indoor range throughout the winter months. You do not need to be a member of the club to shoot in the league but it is always encouraged. Currently we are actively seeking pistol shooters to join the team. We welcome new shooters and will be happy to have them visit one of our practice sessions or observe a match.
Briefly, Bullseye pistol description - NOT official rules:
Eye and ear protection are required (we can provide for visitors.)
We shoot at indoor ranges, a distance of 50 feet, one-hand, standing position.
We fire two matches: one for 22 rimfire and one for centerfire 32 caliber to 45.
Most shooters use a semi-automatic pistol, though revolvers can be and are used by some shooters.
Lead bullets are required for centerfire (Jacketed centerfire ammo is prohibited.)
Each match consists of:
A string of slow fire: 10 shots in ten minutes,
Two 5-shot strings of timed fire, 20 seconds each
Two 5-shot strings of rapid fire, 10 seconds each.
Total is 30 shots per match (22 or centerfire.)
The league travels to Binghamton Rifle Club, Broome County Sportsmen's Assn, Tioga County Sportsmen's Assn, and the New Milford Rifle and Pistol Club ranges on a rotating basis. We shoot against teams from those ranges as well as teams from Greene and Marathon NY. A Pennsylvania pistol permit is required and allows us to travel into NY for our matches there. We usually carpool.
Practice sessions are held at the New Milford Club Wednesdays at 7 PM and usually a course of 22 and a course of centerfire are shot (30 rounds each) and usually takes about an hour.
Matches start October 3 and approximately every other match is at "home" in New Milford. The schedule is posted on the IPA website.
Anyone interested in the pistol team is encouraged to stop by the club at 7 PM Wednesday or Friday or contact Team Captain Bob House via email or call (570) 280-5682.

Official NRA Rules
The Interstate Pistol Association is one of the oldest and most comprehensive Conventional Pistol “Bullseye” leagues in the nation. The league was founded in 1936 to promote competitive pistol marksmanship and has operated continually since. The current IPA League is comprised of eight teams and four ranges located within the twin tiers of NY and PA. The league meets Friday nights from late September through March, excluding holidays. The league is sanctioned by the NRA and follows NRA Conventional Pistol guidelines. New teams with safe and adequate ranges are encouraged to apply for admission.
